What is a refugee?

Definition of the term "refugee"

When the above protection or assistance stops for any reason, and their status has not been clearly resolved in accordance with the relevant resolutions adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, they should actually enjoy the benefits of this Convention.

(5) This Convention does not apply to persons who are considered by the competent authorities of the country of residence to have the right and obligation to acquire the nationality of that country.

(6) The provisions of this Convention shall not apply to cases where there are serious reasons for believing that:

(a) The person has committed a crime against peace, a war crime or a crime against humanity as stipulated in international documents;

(b) The person committed a serious political crime outside the country of refuge before entering the country of refuge as a refugee;

(c) The person's behavior violates the purposes and principles of the United Nations and is found guilty.
