After Sima Yan established the Western Jin Dynasty and eliminated Dongwu, Anjun was renamed Jin'an County, and this area belonged to it. In 568 AD, that is, during the Chen period of the Southern Dynasties, the area around today's Xianyou County belonged to Putian County. In the ninth year of Kaihuang's reign in the Sui Dynasty (589), Fengzhou was changed to Quanzhou, and the area around Xianyou County today belongs to Putian County in Quanzhou; from the third year of Daye in the Sui Dynasty (607) , belongs to Nan'an County, Jian'an County. After Zhu Yuanzhang established the Ming Dynasty, Xianyou County belonged to the Xinghua Prefecture of Fujian Province. After the Qing Dynasty replaced the Ming Dynasty, Xianyou County belonged to Xinghua Prefecture of Fujian Province. In 1914, Xianyou County was affiliated to Xiamen Road. In 1928, Xianyou County was directly affiliated with Fujian Province. In January 1979, Xianyou County belonged to Putian Prefecture. In May 1983, the Putian area was abolished and Putian City was established, which Xianyou County still belongs to today.
