As of February 20 12, Richmond had an estimated population of 200,000, ranking fourth among many cities in Greater Wenzhou, only behind Vancouver (583,267), Suri (393, 137) and Bennaby (204,324).

Richmond's colored population accounts for 59% of the city, making it the second highest city in Canada. More than half of the population in this city are Asians, most of whom immigrated to Canada from Hongkong, Taiwan Province Province and Chinese mainland in 1990s. Other Asians living in Richmond come from India, the Philippines and Japan. Among them, the Japanese settled in Steveston in the south of Richmond as early as19th century.
