Nantuo Town is an important immigration town in the Three Gorges Reservoir area. Nantuo Town is named after the ancient Nantuochang Town is located on the bank of a large backwater Tuo on the south bank of the Yangtze River. The area around today's town had been inhabited by humans before the Han Dynasty. There are remains of Eastern Han Dynasty tombs in Sanguantan, Shifo Village. Documentary records of the Yuan Dynasty and before are missing. In the Ming Dynasty, it was called Nantuochang. It belongs to the Second District of Fuling (residing in Qingxi Town); in the second year of Xuantong in the Qing Dynasty (1910), the town was built with Yuhuangguan, Datuopu, Sanleizi (today's Sanduizi), Zhipingyuan, Ma Jingzi, etc. in 1931, Zhiping Township and Yuhuang Township were merged into Nantuo Town, and Longju Town was established. In 1935 (the 24th year of the Republic of China), the town contained three towns: Zhiping, Nantuo, and Longju, which were affiliated to the First District of Fuling (the district office was stationed in Tianshang Palace, Fuling City); in 1940, two towns, Nantuo and Longju, were established in the town. Affiliated to Fuling District 1 (located in Qingxi Town); in early 1950, Nantuo Township and Longju Township were placed under Fuling District 1 (located in Fuxing Township); in July 1950, Nantuo Township and Longju Township were affiliated to Fuling District 1 District 6 (located in Qingxi Town); in 1953, under the construction of the people's democratic political power, the town was divided into Nantuo Township, Longju Township, Jiaoyan Township, Zhiping Township, Guandong (now "Guandong") Township, and Shiping Township. It belongs to the Sixth District of Fuling (located in Qingxi Township).

In December 1955, the town was established as Nantuo District (in Nantuo Township, the same below), with jurisdiction over Qingxi Township, Ping'an Township (today's Dipo, the same below), Jiaoyan Township, and Longju Township. Township, Nantuo Township and 5 other townships; in June 1956, Nantuo District governed 8 townships including Qingxi Township, Nantuo Township, Longju Township, Pingan Township, Luoyun Township, Hexing Township, Fuxing Township, Jiaoshi Township . In 1958, the People's Commune was established. In September 1963, the Sichuan Provincial People's Committee approved that Nantuo District was renamed Qingxi District.

In July 1982, the town was established as Nantuo Township (located in Nantuochang, with jurisdiction over 9 villages: Jinji, Mumiao, Xiajia, Zhiping, Guandong, Badou, Lianfeng, Shaping, and Doushui 67 Villager groups), Jiaoyan Township (based in Yangjigou, jurisdiction over 45 villager groups in 9 villages: Yongsheng, Muhe, Jiaoyan, Sanguan, Shifo, Yunqing, Hualou, Hujia, and Pingxi villages), Long Juxiang (Zhumajingzi, jurisdiction over 53 villager groups in 8 villages: Majing, Shilan, Yanwo, Changsha, Xiushan, Dam, Shiping and Ruilong).

In July 1992, Nantuo Township, Jiaoyan Township, and Longju Township were merged into Nantuo Town (located on Nantuo Street), which has remained unchanged to this day. The town has jurisdiction over 26 villages and 176 villager groups; in April 2002, Nantuo Town Wangjiawan Neighborhood Committee (2 residents' groups) was added. Namely: Wangjiawan Community (Wangjiawan 2-2); Longju Village (Majing, Shilan, Bird's Nest 18-8), Xiushan (Xiushan, Changsha, Dam < Yangziyan > 20-10), Hongbei Village (Shiping, Ruilong 15-7), Jinji Village (Jinji, Mamiao 17-8), Guandong Village (Guandong, Ba Dou 22-8), Lianfeng Village (Lianfeng, Shaping 15-6), Nantuo Village (Doushui, Xiajia 17-7), Zhiping Village (Zhiping , Yunqing, Hualou 17-7), Muhe Village (Hujia, Muhe 8-4), Jiaoyan Village (Jiaoyan, Yongsheng 12-4), Shi Fo Village (Shifo, Sanguan 12-4), Pingxi Village ( 3). In 2007, the town established 12 villages and 1 community, 76 villagers' groups, 2 community residents' groups, 11,096 households, and a registered population of 35,510 (including 2,427 non-agricultural population and 33,083 agricultural population).

Combined with the construction of Fuling's high-efficiency ecological agriculture demonstration park, scientific planning and rational layout, we will develop sightseeing agriculture.
