In July 1982, the town was established as Nantuo Township (located in Nantuochang, with jurisdiction over 9 villages: Jinji, Mumiao, Xiajia, Zhiping, Guandong, Badou, Lianfeng, Shaping, and Doushui 67 Villager groups), Jiaoyan Township (based in Yangjigou, jurisdiction over 45 villager groups in 9 villages: Yongsheng, Muhe, Jiaoyan, Sanguan, Shifo, Yunqing, Hualou, Hujia, and Pingxi villages), Long Juxiang (Zhumajingzi, jurisdiction over 53 villager groups in 8 villages: Majing, Shilan, Yanwo, Changsha, Xiushan, Dam, Shiping and Ruilong).
