Where is Baihetan Hydropower Station?

Baihetan Hydropower Station is located in ningnan county, Liangshan Prefecture, Sichuan Province and Qiaojia County, Zhaotong City, Yunnan Province.

Baihetan Hydropower Station, the second cascade hydropower station developed in the lower reaches of Jinsha River, has comprehensive benefits such as power generation, flood control, sand retention, improvement of downstream shipping conditions and development of shipping in reservoir areas.

The normal water level of the reservoir is 825 meters, with a corresponding storage capacity of 20.6 billion cubic meters. Baihetan Hydropower Station is equipped with 16 hydro-generator units independently developed by China, with a single unit capacity of one million kilowatts ranking first in the world, with a total installed capacity of160,000 kilowatts. The average power generation for many years is 60.24 billion kWh. The main project of the power station is scheduled to start in 20 13, and the first batch of units will generate electricity on 2021June 28th. In August of the same year, Unit 7 of Baihetan Hydropower Station successfully passed the 72-hour trial operation and officially put into commercial operation.

The project mainly focuses on power generation, and has comprehensive benefits such as sand blocking, flood control, shipping and irrigation.

According to the requirements of the Brief Report on Comprehensive Planning of the Yangtze River Basin, combined with the characteristics of the project and its strategic position in the "West-to-East Power Transmission", it is determined that the development task of Baihetan Hydropower Station is to give priority to power generation, give consideration to flood control, promote local economic and social development and help immigrants get rid of poverty and become rich.
