Application process of relative immigrant visa:

first step

U.S. citizens should submit the I- 130 form to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Office in their residential area. If an American applicant has lived in China for more than six months, he can submit an application at the local immigration office according to the jurisdiction of his place of residence.

Second step

If the application is submitted in the United States, the approved I- 130 will be sent directly to the National Visa Center (NVC) and then to the Consulate General. It takes about 3-4 months to send it from the visa center. However, due to the clearance procedures of China Customs, there will be some delays.

Note: after receiving the application fee, NVC will send you a package of immigration instructions (including form DS-230 PDF). Please fill in the form according to the instructions and send it back to NVC together with the required materials. The faster you hand in the forms and related materials, the faster your application will be processed.

If your I- 130 was submitted in China, your immigration application will be sent directly to the consulate instead of NVC. After the consulate receives the documents, it will send an explanatory package to your beneficiary.

Third step

After receiving the file, the consulate will first review the file to ensure that the applicant's information is complete. If the materials are missing, the consulate will send the beneficiary an explanatory package. After confirming that the materials are complete, the consulate will arrange an interview for the applicant. The treatment time is about 2-4 months.

Fourth step

After determining the interview date, the consulate will send an appointment package (also known as package No.4) to the applicant, explaining how to prepare the interview materials. Applicants need to go to the designated hospital (PDF) for physical examination before the interview.
