What is the climate like in New Zealand?
I spent a year and three months on a working holiday in New Zealand. I basically traveled all over the North and South Islands. The blue sky there was something I had never seen again since I returned to China, and the stars there were also the ones I had never seen since I returned home. Never seen before. The temperature in winter is similar to that in the south of China, but it is dry and cold. It is actually not as cold as the south. The South Island is expected to be colder and it will snow. The highest temperature in summer is generally not higher than 28 degrees, so New Zealanders basically do not use air conditioning. However, the temperature difference between day and night is generally very large. In some places, such as the Otago area where I stayed, the early morning in summer is only 6 or 7 degrees. The wind in the capital, Wellington, is really strong, and the weather on the west coast of the South Island is terrible. It rains almost every day in winter.
It is certain that the four seasons are not as good as spring. I have lived in Christchurch, South Island, for three years, and now I have lived in Auckland for two years. There is a big temperature difference between days. In summer, you may wear a tank top and shorts at noon, but you must wear a jacket when going out at night. Now that I've been here for a long time, like other Kiwis, I don't hold an umbrella on rainy days because the wind is too strong and it's useless. But I don’t agree with the statement that it’s always cloudy. As long as it doesn’t rain, the sky is so beautiful. I traveled to Queensland, Australia for more than a week. After returning to New Zealand, I still felt that the scenery in New Zealand was more beautiful. I think New Zealand is more beautiful than Australia because it is on the sea. I came to Auckland in early February this year. When I left, the country encountered a cold wave that had never happened in years. The water pipes in my house froze and burst. As soon as I got off the plane, I felt the "enthusiasm" of the southern half of the year, which was definitely "hot". Although the locals say it's the end of summer, it doesn't look like it's going to be autumn at all.
A Kiwi friend told me that February to April is also a very wonderful season of the year in Auckland, because it is neither too hot nor too cold, and the temperature difference between morning and evening is not big (but really It’s very sunny, so I suggest you buy sunscreen here, it’s more effective and the price is lower than in China). Starting from mid-April, the temperature in Auckland will drop a little when it rains. Autumn is getting stronger and stronger. There is a big temperature difference between morning and evening, and it is very hot when the sun comes out in the afternoon. In general, it’s just a matter of wearing layers. The layers are peeled off again and again (I am more afraid of the cold). In the past ten days, I took advantage of the term 1 holiday to visit the South Island. It is still different from the North Island. Especially in Queenstown, it is so cold in the morning and evening that the streets are mostly filled with pedestrians wearing light down jackets (especially compatriots from the motherland), but the locals still wear short-sleeves and shorts and run on the road as always.
