Guzan, a descendant of Polish immigrants, started playing for the Chicago Magic and later played for the Illinois High School until he graduated in 2003. Later, he played college football for two years, played for the South Carolina team, and was selected for the All-American College Star Team.

Since 2005, Guzan signed a contract with Major League Soccer, and was selected by Chicago USA in the 2005 draft, where he played for 4 years and made 79 appearances. In July 2008 1 1, Guzan moved to Aston Villa in the Premier League for 600,000 pounds. At present, he is the main goalkeeper of the team, and Irish goalkeeper given is his substitute.

Guzan used to play for the U-23 team in the United States. Since 2006, he has been playing for the American adult national team, but his identity is mostly a substitute goalkeeper.
