The Over Technology brought by the "Mysterious Battleship" (later called Macross) that crashed into the earth reveals the subtle connection between human history and ancient civilization Proto Culture. Prompt humans to end the war between each other. On the one hand, they face the powerful alien forces Zentraedi and Proto Deviln and use the "power of culture" to find a way to survive. On the other hand, they migrate to the galaxy and seek a new world.

(Space Battleship Fall & Unification War )

In July 1999, a huge Supervisory Army warship crashed into the earth. In order to face possible alien attacks, mankind decided to establish a unified government and began a nine-year unification war with the anti-unification alliance.

In the meantime, the variable fighter Valkyrie was developed based on the Over Technology brought by the aliens.

In July 2008, the two sides fought for the mysterious object AFOS (エイフォス) with ASS response, triggering an attack and defense battle on Mayan Island. Later, the "Birdman", a surveillance device for humanoid transformation left by Proto Culture on the earth, awakened and prepared to destroy the earth that failed to transform, but was stopped. In December of the same year, the Unification War ended.
