How to extend the American green card?

Green card holders can apply for an extension six months before the green card expires. In order to apply for extension, green card holders should prepare the following materials:

1. Fill in a complete green card extension application form (I-90 form);

2. Two color photos;

3. The original green card currently held by the applicant;

4. Copies of the front and back of the green card;

5. The applicant's identity card, such as driver's license and passport;

6. The immigration application fee can be paid by money order or personal check, but not by cash.

Relevant appendices:

1. If the name of the applicant is officially changed due to marriage or other reasons, that is, the current name is different from the name shown on the green card, the applicant should also submit documents to prove the change of his name, such as marriage certificate, divorce certificate or relevant court documents.

2. If the applicant's green card was obtained before 14 years old, and the applicant is now over 14 years old, then the applicant must have his fingerprint taken.

3. when all the above materials are ready, the applicant needs to go to the USCIS application support center of the local immigration office to submit the green card extension application in person. At that time, immigration officials will initially review the applicant's application for extension. If all the materials are complete, the immigration officer will return the applicant's current green card and issue a temporary green card certificate to the applicant. When the immigration department finally approves the application for green card extension, it will issue a new green card with the validity period of 10 years to the applicant.
