Mingshan was the domain of Liangzhou in ancient times, and it was changed to Mingshan County in the early Sui Dynasty.

After the Western Wei Dynasty abolished the emperor for 2 years (AD 553), it began to emigrate and established Mengshan (now a famous town in Mengyang) as two counties. In the third year of Zhou Tianhe (AD 568), mengshan county was divided into Lizhou County and Li Shen County.

In 593 (13th year of Emperor Kai of Sui Dynasty), mengshan county was changed to Mingshan County, and the county name was taken from Mengshan, a famous mountain in China, which is still in use today. In the 4th year of Sui Renshou (AD 604), Yazhou was abolished as a county. In the third year of Yang Di's great cause (AD 607), the abandoned Yazhou was located in Lin Qiong County, including Mingshan County and Shiyang County.

In the first year of Wude in the Tang Dynasty (AD 6 18), a two-level system of state and county was implemented, Yazhou was restored, and four counties, including Mingshan, were established.

1955 belongs to Xikang province. In the same year, Sichuan and Xikang merged into a province, which belongs to Ya 'an District of Sichuan Province (later changed area).

1989 was approved as an open county by the State Council.

2012165438+16 October, Mingshan county was revoked, and Mingshan district of Ya 'an city was established, with Mingshan county administrative area as the administrative area of Mingshan district.
