However, successive military victories stimulated the ambitions of those in power, and the territory of the Tang Dynasty returned to the territory of the Han Dynasty. The power of the late Tang Dynasty was as weak as that of the late Han Dynasty. All non-Chinese parts were gone and needed to be regained by the next empire at its peak. The loss of Vietnam is related to the weakness of the Song Dynasty. It could have been possible to recover part of North Vietnam, but due to the Song emperor's own unsatisfactory and conciliatory habits, coupled with the cleverness of the Vietnamese, a Kingdom of Cochin was legally established with the approval of China. After the death of the first King of Jiaozhi, the Song Empire sent some troops to take it back, but unfortunately they were defeated. Three years later, the Vietnamese pretended to apologize and asked for canonization. Human beings have always had the habit of recognizing fait accompli, so they had no choice but to agree, and the second King of Cochin was born. In subsequent conflicts around 1000 years ago, every time the Vietnamese knelt down to express their apology and remorse, the ancient and modern Chinese empire would be satisfied. The Kingdom of Cochin also adopted the policy of serving the great powers, and was even more submissive to China than the Kingdom of Koryo.

During the Ming Dynasty, the civil strife in Vietnam gave the Ming Empire an opportunity to send troops to invade Vietnam. At this time, the Kingdom of Cochin had been renamed Annan. As a result, China announced the abolition of the Annan Kingdom and renamed it Cochin Province. This land, which had been independent from China since the 10th century, returned to the motherland. However, after more than 400 years of isolation, the conditions for reunification were very immature. After maintaining it for 20 years, the Ming Dynasty finally let go. In the following nearly 500 years, after a period of conflict stalemate, Vietnam often begged the Qing Dynasty for tolerance. Most ancient and modern China faced reality and showed magnanimity, only seeking a nominal suzerainty. Since Korea, another colony in the Tang Dynasty, separated from China at the end of the Tang Dynasty, China has never disturbed it, and it has always been protected by China, the sovereign state.
