I am against white rule and black rule. I have always cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society, in which all people enjoy equal opportunities and live in harmony. This is an ideal, and I hope to live for it and see it come true. But if necessary, this is an ideal for which I am willing to die.

My friends, comrades and fellow South Africans: I greet you in the name of peace, democracy and freedom for all mankind. I stand before you not as a prophet, but as a humble servant of your people. Your tireless heroic sacrifices have enabled me to stand here today. Therefore, I pin the rest of my life on you, and I extend my sincere and warmest thanks to millions of my compatriots and those people around the world who have worked tirelessly for my release. I extend my special greetings to the people of Cape Town, which has been my home for 30 years. Your mass demonstrations and other forms of struggle have always been the source of all political forces. It lived up to all our expectations of Comrade oliver tambo, the leader of the Great Long March, and led the African National Congress under the most difficult circumstances.

My friends, comrades and fellow South Africans: I salute you in the name of peace, democracy and freedom for all mankind. I stand before you today, not as a prophet, but as a humble public servant. Your unremitting struggle and heroic sacrifice have enabled me to stand here today, so I want to dedicate the rest of my life to you. Today, when I am released, I would like to extend my most sincere and warmest thanks to millions of compatriots and people all over the world who have made unremitting efforts for my release. I want to thank the people of Cape Town in particular. I have lived in Cape Town for 30 years. Your large-scale demonstrations, petitions and other forms of struggle have always been the source of strength for all political prisoners. I salute the African National Congress. As a political party that led us to freedom, it realized all our expectations of it. I pay tribute to our chairman, Comrade oliver tambo, who led the African National Congress under the most difficult circumstances.

I salute the rank? And then what? Members of the archives of the ANC: You sacrificed your lives and limbs in the pursuit of our lofty cause, just like Solomon Mahlangu and Ashley Creaer, who paid the highest price for the freedom of all South Africans. I pay tribute to South African communist party, which has made outstanding contributions to the struggle for democracy. You have survived 40 years of cruel persecution. Great communists such as Moses Cotane, Yusuf Dado, Bram Fischer and Moses Mabhida will be remembered for generations to come. I salute General Secretary joe slovo, who is one of our best patriots. We are encouraged that the alliance between us and the party is still as strong as in the past-the National Education Crisis Committee, the South African Youth Congress, the Transvaal and Natal Indian Congress, the South African Federation of Trade Unions and many other organizations of the popular democracy movement. I also pay tribute to the Black Belt and the National Federation of South African Students. We are proud to note that you look-you act like the conscience of white South Africa. Even in the darkest days of our struggle, you held high the banner of freedom. Large size? The mass mobilization in the past few years is one of the key factors leading to the beginning of our last chapter-your organized strength is the pride of our movement. You are still the most reliable force in the struggle to end exploitation and oppression.

I salute the ordinary party member of the ANC: you bravely went through fire and water in the great cause of freedom. I pay tribute to the soldiers of the National Spear, such as Solomon Mahlangu and Ashley Corell, who shed their last drop of blood for the freedom of all South Africans. I pay tribute to the South African Productive Party, which has made extraordinary contributions to the democratic struggle in South Africa. You endured 40 years of relentless persecution and persisted. Generations in South Africa will miss great producers such as Moses Cordan, Yusuf Dadu, Bram Fisher and Moses Masda. I pay tribute to Secretary-General joe slovo, who is one of our most outstanding patriots. An encouraging fact is that our alliance with the * * * production party is as indestructible as ever. I pay tribute to the United Democratic Front, the National Education Crisis Management Committee, the South African Youth Association, the Indian Congress of transvaal province and natal province, the South African Trade Federation and other various forms of mass democratic movement organizations. I would also like to pay tribute to the "Black Shoulder Belt" Women's Association and the National Federation of South African Students. We are proud to see that your words and deeds represent the conscience of white South Africans. Even in the darkest days of our struggle, you held high the banner of democracy and freedom. In the past few years, large-scale mass mobilization has been one of the main factors to open the last chapter of our struggle. I want to pay tribute to the working class in our country. Your unity is the pride of our freedom movement. You are still the most reliable force in our struggle against exploitation and oppression.

I pay tribute to many religious groups, who promoted the movement for justice when our people's organizations were suppressed. I salute the traditional leaders of our country-many of you continue to follow in the footsteps of great heroes, such as Hincha, and you, young lions. You, young lions, have injected vitality into our whole struggle. I pay tribute to the mothers, wives and sisters of our country. Are you a stone? A solid foundation for our struggle. Apartheid has brought you more pain than anyone else. We thank the world, and we thank the international community for its great contribution to anti-apartheid? The struggle for apartheid. Without your support, our struggle would not have developed to this stage. The sacrifice of the frontline countries will be remembered by South Africans, and both blacks and whites realize that apartheid has no future. In order to build peace and security, we must take decisive and large-scale actions to end this situation.
