In the countryside of Shouxian County, Anhui Province, there is an ancient house bought from Wuyuan. The owner of the house is too arrogant.

Anhui Shouxian County, known as Shouchun, Shouyang and Shouzhou in ancient times, is located on the south bank of the middle reaches of the Huaihe River in central Anhui Province. This is a small town with a long history. It was originally a fiefdom for Chun Shenjun, one of the four gentlemen of the Warring States Period, to celebrate his birthday. Hence the name Shouchun. In history, it was the capital 4 times and the county 10 times. It is the hometown of Chu culture, the birthplace of Chinese tofu, and the ancient battlefield of the Battle of Feishui. It is known as the "underground museum".

I recently visited Shouxian County and accidentally discovered a "very new" ancient building behind the Sun Ancestral Hall in Sunchang Village, Shuangqiao Town. Curious, I went to visit the ancient house. The overall building looks very new, as if it was newly built, but upon closer inspection, many of the wooden structural components are old, with no signs of distress. According to villagers, this house was built in the 32nd year of Qianlong's reign and has a history of more than 250 years. It looks new because this ancient building was purchased from Wuyuan, Jiangxi Province and rebuilt here.

Walking into the interior, you can see that the hall is tall and spacious. The pillars in the hall are straight and tall, and they are also equipped with stone pillars; the patio in the middle is paved with bluestone slabs, and the brickwork is regular; the door lintels, partitions, window lattice, and caisson well , Liang Fang, Que Tai and Dougong are exquisitely carved, and the deep courtyard of the mansion is all engraved with traces of history. The two-story wooden structure can be climbed up via stairs.

Because the whole building has just been built, there are not many interiors. Except for a few calligraphy and paintings by Sun's descendants and two vases, there is nothing else. However, the whole building has a large number of wood carvings. The wood carvings on the beams, brackets, flower doors and window roots of the main hall are complex and have many figures. They are exquisite pictures. The craftsmen used deep relief and round carving techniques to create the pavilion in a small space. Terraces, pavilions, trees, mountains and rivers, people, animals, flowers, birds, insects and fish are all gathered together in one place. The front and rear perspectives are clearly layered and exquisite.

The most important form of traditional Chinese residences is the wooden-frame courtyard residence, and the Huizhou "Four Waters Returning to the Hall" style residence is one of the important types. Here, "tang" refers to the front of the steps, and the so-called "four water returns to the hall" means collecting rainwater from the roof of the house into the patio. Wuyuan was also a part of Huizhou in the early days. Through this construction industry, it showed the world the charm of Huizhou's residential buildings. How much would it cost to simply purchase such a building, dismantle it, transport it, and then reinstall it?

The Sun family in Shouxian County, Western Anhui Province, has a long history of farming and reading, and its descendants have taken the lead and achieved great success, thus becoming a famous family. For hundreds of years, poetry and etiquette have been passed down from generation to generation, farming and reading are the foundation, teaching and educating people, There are many talented people, and there is also the Sun Ancestral Hall built by the emperor of the Qing Dynasty. Sun's ancestral hall has three main entrances, with a green tile roof, decorated with ridged animals and flying eaves. On both sides of the gate of the ancestral hall are half-person tall bluestones holding drums, lined with high thresholds, highlighting the solemnity of the ancestral hall. On the lintel of the ancestral hall are the golden characters of "Sun's Ancestral Hall" shining brightly. Because the door was not open, I was not able to visit the interior.

When you arrive in Shouxian County, you must take a walk on the ancient city wall. Above the city gate, you can see the vicissitudes of thousands of years of wind and rain. The city gates and walls we see now were first built in the Xining period of the Northern Song Dynasty (1068-1077) and rebuilt by Xu Jun, the governor of Jiankang in the 12th year of Ningzong of the Southern Song Dynasty (1206). It lasted more than 150 years and went through many times. The ancient city wall of Shouxian County is the only relatively well-preserved Song Dynasty city wall among the seven ancient city walls in the country. It has brick walls and stone foundations and a circumference of 7,147 meters.
