The first person in the United States to contact Buddhism.

The first European-American who officially converted to Buddhism was Allgaier, and he may also be the first "white Buddhist" in the world. His original English name was Henry Steele alcott. He was born in 1832 and died in 1907. He is from New Jersey, USA. During the civil war, he was awarded the rank of colonel. So many books are used to calling him "Colonel Allgaier". 1On May 25th, 879, he accepted three conversions and five precepts in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) and became a Buddhist. 1In April, 885, he designed a banner for Buddhism. 1950 was officially adopted as the Buddhist flag by the World Buddhists Association. Today, this flag is hung in Buddhist temples all over the world.
