The Historical Evolution of Chen Mao Town

Chen Mao Town was a lake and swamp area in ancient times. As early as 4,000 years ago, during the Longshan culture period, people lived in this land, and many pottery fragments of daily utensils were found in the site of Bigongtai.

Because the land is mostly barren lakes and wild plains, it is often flooded, and there are few residents in history. It was not until the Ming Dynasty that a large number of immigrants from Jiangnan and Macheng came here to reclaim land, and it gradually developed into a densely populated place. During the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, Xiaogan County established Yangguang Township here.

Maochendu, the seat of the town government of Chen Mao Town, is located in the middle of the town. Established in Qianlong four years (1739). Because there are two Dujia named Chen Mao who ferry at Wanjiapo of Weihe River, it is called Maochendu, hence the name Chen Mao Town.

1949, after the founding of New China, Chen Mao Town was subordinate to Xiaogan organization.

1September, 966, Chen Mao Town belongs to Xiaogan District.

1984 Xiaogan county was abolished, and a county-level Xiaogan city was established, which belonged to Chen Mao town.

1April, 1993, Xiaogan area was abolished and Xiaogan city was established at the prefecture level. Xiaogan, the former county-level city, was divided into two parts, with Xiaochang County in the north and Xiaonan District in the south, and Chen Mao Town was under the jurisdiction of Xiaonan District.
