The origin of Chaoshan Putian and Putian

There used to be a lot of "Pu" in the ancient place names of Chaozhou, especially in the former Haiyang County (now Chao 'an), including Dongpudu, Shangpudu and Waipudu. According to Fu Zhi's records, Dongpu was in charge of Xie San, Shaxi, Shandou and Shanhou in the early Qing Dynasty. Shangpu is in charge of five villages: Shanpu, Henglong, Caitang, Lengtou and Xiaweishen. There is also the capital city of Waipu, which was included in Chenghai when it was established in Chenghai County during Jiajing period of Ming Dynasty. It is divided into three capitals: Shangwaipu, Chinese and foreign Pupu and Xiawaipu. Shangwaipu governs the southern border, Lindong and Henglong. Chinese and foreign jurisdictions include Dragon, Washington, Guanhu and Xishan. Xiawaibu governs Wangbi, Guanlong, Longtian, Shangjiao and Xiajiao. In addition, Sandu is now Shang Hua Town in Chenghai and Chengcheng three streets. There are also six towns and villages in Chengxiang County (now Meixian District of Meizhou City), including Hanpudu and Tongtai Pingtan.

Many place names with the word "Pu" are obviously related to the history of Chaoshan immigrants. Pu is a kind of grass by the sea. Most of the ancestors of Chaoshan migrated south from the Central Plains, mostly concentrated in Putian, Fujian Province, where they lived for more than 200 years, 1300 years, and became "Heluo people". Then they moved to eastern Guangdong one after another and became hipsters. Lin Daqin, the top scholar in the Ming Dynasty, was called "Mr. Dongpu". His ancestors moved from Putian to Xiandu Village, Dongpudu (Jinshi), Haiyang County. Most hipsters' ancestors came along this long and tortuous road. After settling on the beach, the word "Pu" is still used to name new villages, reflecting their attachment to their homes and nostalgia for the former villagers. By the Lianjiang River in Chaoyang, there is a "Meizhou Village" (Guiyu), which was also taken by our ancestors from the place name of Putian.

Putian, located in the eastern coast of Fujian, was a county in the Southern Dynasties, with a history of 1400 years. That is to say, Putian people had heard of yushu backyard flower. Her history is longer than that of most counties in Chaozhou. Although the area is not very large (today, she and Xianyou County are collectively called Putian City, with a much larger area).

Nowadays, many place names with the word "Pu" have disappeared, but many ancestral halls in Chaoshan still like to write the word "Putian Fu" on door couplets or plaques, for fear that future generations will forget this. Mazu Moline, born in Meizhou, Putian County in Song Dynasty, became a saint without marriage. Some Chaoshan people call her "auntie", which is the address between relatives. In addition, the worship of Mazu by Chaoshan people is related to the historical origin of Chaoshan people besides their beliefs.
