With strong feelings and rich imagination, his poems show the course of Latin American people's struggle for independence, democracy and freedom, and are highly ideological and artistic.

Nie Luda was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1971 because "his poems have a natural function and revived the destiny and dreams of a mainland".

His poetry not only inherits the tradition of Spanish national poetry, but also accepts the influence of French modernist poetry such as Baudelaire. It not only absorbs the characteristics of Chilean national poetry, but also finds its most beloved form from Whitman's creation.
