On August 23, 1954, the Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Region was established, administering the four counties of Bijiang, Fugong, Gongshan and Lushui. In 1957, the district was converted into a state, the People's Government of Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture was established, and Lanping County, which was originally part of Lijiang Prefecture, was included in Nujiang Prefecture. On September 24, 1986, with the approval of the State Council, the organizational structure of Bijiang was revoked, and the two districts of Gudeng and Luobenzhuo in the original Bijiang County were assigned to Lushui, and the three districts of Jiakedi, Zilijia, and Pihe were assigned to Fugong County.
