Historical evolution

Lintan County was established in the Tang Dynasty. It is said that the county is located near a pond, hence its name. Lintan, known as Taozhou in ancient times, is located on the northeastern edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. It is a transition zone where the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and the Loess Plateau meet. It is located in the south of Gansu Province and the east of Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. It is the junction of agricultural areas and pastoral areas, Tibetan areas and Han areas.
