Burmese are the largest ethnic group in Myanmar, with a population of about 34 million (estimated in 2004), accounting for 65% of the total population of Myanmar. Burmese belong to the Southeast Asian branch of Mongolian race, with short stature, brown skin color and Burmese language. Burmese belongs to the Burmese branch of Sino-Tibetan language family and is an isolated language. Word order and function words play a very important role.
