Brief introduction of Chongqing Academy of Agricultural Sciences

As an important industrial base in western China, Chongqing has a strong industrial base and a weak agricultural base. With Chongqing directly under the central government and the Three Gorges Reservoir, the pattern of Chongqing's large-scale industry and agriculture is more obvious. About 70% of the rural population, millions of Three Gorges immigrants, hundreds of kilometers of Three Gorges reservoir banks, and the important citrus belt in China … all these basic "market conditions" require Chongqing to establish an Academy of Agricultural Sciences commensurate with its status as a municipality directly under the Central Government.

But for a long time, Chongqing agriculture has been weak and scattered in basic research and scientific and technological support. There are no corresponding scientific research institutions for efficient ecological characteristic industries, agricultural non-point source pollution prevention, ecological environment protection in the Three Gorges reservoir area, and water environment safety in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. The underdeveloped and imperfect R&D and public service platforms, such as the transformation of agricultural scientific and technological achievements, the popularization and application of new technologies, and the quality and safety of agricultural products, have become the "bottlenecks" restricting Chongqing's comprehensive and coordinated development.

According to Wang, deputy director of Chongqing Agriculture Bureau, Chongqing Academy of Agricultural Sciences will integrate Chongqing's agricultural "intellectual" resources. The scientific and technological resources of Chongqing Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Fruit Tree Institute, Crop Institute, Tea Institute and Agricultural Machinery Institute will constitute the main scientific research force of Academy of Agricultural Sciences. It is understood that the Chongqing Academy of Agricultural Sciences, which will be established soon, will bring together more than 80 personnel with senior professional titles and doctoral degrees, as well as three key laboratories and quality testing centers at ministerial and municipal levels.

After completion, Chongqing Academy of Agricultural Sciences will set up a 15 research institute (center) for rice, corn and vegetables, and plan to build key disciplines such as crop genetics and breeding, crop nutrition and cultivation, agricultural resources and environmental protection, and agricultural product processing. Carry out innovative research in the fields of crop seed innovation, agricultural biotechnology, prevention and control technology of major biological disasters, deep processing of agricultural products, mountain agricultural machinery and so on 10. Among them, corn, high-quality hybrid rice, vegetable breeding, tea processing and other R&D capabilities will become the "brand" of Chongqing Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
