How do Canadian immigrants get health cards after landing?
1. As a Canadian citizen, a legal resident of Canada with a maple leaf card or a new immigrant who meets the conditions of the Ontario Health Insurance Law.
2. Stay in Ontario within any 12 months 153 days.
3. Stay in Ontario for at least 153 days after becoming a resident of Ontario.
4. Time must be counted from the time of arrival in Ontario, not other provinces.
OHIP will not take effect until three months after becoming a resident of Ontario (it will take effect three months after applying in advance or not).
Second, the materials needed to apply for a health card:
(For the following three certificates, each certificate only needs to provide an original document that meets the requirements. )
1. Canadian citizenship certificate, or immigration certificate meeting OHIP requirements.
For example: maple leaf card or landing paper.
Step 2 identify
For example, documents with the cardholder's name and signature, such as passport, credit card, driver's license, student ID card, landing paper, etc.
3. Ontario Residence Certificate
For example, you need to indicate the cardholder's name and home address, such as the purchase contract, rental lease or bank statement, telephone bill or driver's license for the current month. Its purpose is to prove that the cardholder really lives at the address and stays for a long time.
Third, the process of handling health cards:
1. Select and go to the nearest and most convenient Ontario office.
2. Fill in the Ontario Health Insurance Registration Application Form (Form 0265-82).
3. Submit the form after completion.
4. Enter the application waiting period.
Four, health card matters needing attention:
1.OHIP stipulates that you can leave the country in 2 12 days. After this time, you can enjoy OHIP in four situations. These four situations are: study, work, missionary work and vacation. Full-time study and missionary work are completely free from any time limit, and you can still enjoy the benefits provided by OHIP after returning to Ontario; However, there are time limits for non-missionary work and holidays. The maximum working time is 5 years, and the maximum vacation time is 2 years. If you return to Ontario during this period, you can continue to enjoy OHIP benefits.
2. The health card is used to pay the most basic and urgent medical expenses, so it usually does not include the following services: the medicine fee for daily outpatient service; Dental expenses; The cost of optometry and glasses; And the cost of medical cosmetic surgery.
Because many new immigrant families have just landed, they are tired or prone to illness, but the health card will not take effect until three months later. It is recommended that new immigrants buy insurance before landing. (Because there is a waiting period of 48 hours to buy insurance, I suggest you buy insurance 48 hours in advance so that your family can get insurance as soon as they set foot in Canada. )
