What about marrying a foreigner?
Recently, I met an excellent parent who pretended to despise Americans when talking about his daughter marrying an American. In fact, the tone was very ostentatious and really tortured my ears. What he said was: What's so good about America? They let my daughter become an American citizen, but I just don't agree. At first, I reluctantly endured and let him enjoy himself. Later, I couldn't help it. I asked him weakly: which "America" insisted on inviting your girl to be naturalized? According to your daughter's marriage age, it seems that she is not eligible for naturalization, right? He had to shut up angrily. To tell the truth, it is impossible for the US Immigration Service (including other western countries) to invite anyone to be naturalized. Don't think that foreign countries will introduce countless so-called policies to attract talents like China. How many foreigners are willing to be naturalized in China? What a narcissist!
Every time I hear China people talk about transnational marriage, there is always an unspeakable feeling, whether it is a show-off person or a listener. In fact, many China people's foreign-related marriages are not good enough to be envied and then imitated.
China people's foreign-related marriage, accurately speaking, should be China women's foreign-related marriage, because the probability of China men marrying foreigners is extremely low, so it can be ignored. Therefore, when we hear about foreign-related marriage, it basically refers to China women marrying foreigners.
Whether at the beginning of the reform and opening up, or now, the main goal of China women marrying foreigners is to get a green card. Undeniably, foreign green card policies have not been relaxed because of the increasing internationalization of the world, but have become more and more strict. However, foreign men married by domestic women are mostly older, have been married twice, and occasionally of the same age, which should not belong to the so-called appropriate standards that people in China think at present.
From a pragmatic point of view, it is a wise choice for China women to remarry or so-called older women to marry foreigners, because foreigners generally don't care about each other's age. Of course there are exceptions. Is Murdoch an exception? However, if they are all married for the first time and of the right age, how many can really find the right husband? Except for the green card, of course. Almost all the couples I know recently are posted by China's mother-in-law, whether it's a huge wedding or buying a house in a foreign country. Therefore, the foreign son-in-law is more excited when he gets married, which is incredible, but who knows if it will last long?
For foreign-related marriages, I have always been a bad singer, and I dare not agree with the wishful thinking of many prospective mothers-in-law. Because there are really not many foreign-related marriages, although sometimes it looks good, especially after having a doll-like child. As far as I know, people who can really grow old together are basically divorced except those who have had two extramarital affairs. The specific reason, only they can know.
About foreign-related marriage, I will tell you a true story and throw cold water on those who dream of becoming foreign mothers-in-law.
Nancy is an ANZ employee in Australia, a Shanghainese, who is responsible for handling customers in China. She happened to know her when she went to get a bank card. Maybe it's because of her age, or maybe she needs someone to talk to. She took the initiative to talk to me about her marriage and family, which surprised me. On the one hand, it's our first meeting, and secondly, Shanghai is very defensive and has a heavy sense of face. Such a personal matter will never be told to anyone.
Nancy lived in Australia for more than 20 years. She was one of the early China people. She has been married to an Australian aborigine for seventeen years, and has a son and a daughter, a son of fifteen and a daughter of thirteen. In these seventeen years, they bought a house and a car and paid off all the loans in the shortest time. Nancy's husband has no regular job. He is mainly responsible for sending children from both countries to and from school every day and occasionally doing odd jobs. The living expenses of the family depend entirely on Nancy. In recent years, their husband and wife have basically separated, but under the same roof, there is no direct language communication between husband and wife, and they usually communicate by leaving notes to each other. Nancy felt very confused and wronged. She doesn't know why her husband wants her to divorce. She felt that she had worked hard day and night to finally pay off the loan, and life at home was getting better and better, but her husband had no language communication with her.
Seeing her anxious eyes, I asked her, do you want a divorce? She shook her head and said, no, I looked at her and said to her, first of all, you should buy some clothes and dress up as a Shanghainese; Secondly, ask for leave from the company, and the whole family will go out to travel, no matter how far or near, and go out for a few days; Go to see a movie and a ball game with my husband; Besides, buy another car. Living abroad for many years, she can't drive, and she didn't buy a car at home in order to repay her mortgage as soon as possible. After listening to my suggestion, she didn't say for sure. Is it okay? Actually, I don't know if I can do it, but I can't do it without trying. Finally, I got divorced.
