Northeasters are the only group in China who call themselves regional people. But now people will think that the Northeast people are from the three northeastern provinces in a narrow sense. Then why do people call them Northeasters instead of Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning or Inner Mongolia?

The first reason should start with the residents here.

In the ancient history of China, the Northeast was not under the jurisdiction of China in most dynasties, and Liaoning Province was the only province close to the Central Plains. Therefore, Liaoning Province has a close relationship with all dynasties in history. Heilongjiang and Jilin provinces have long been frozen by snow and ice. In ancient times, they were such "desolate places" that people seldom went. Twenty million northeast ancestors left Shanhaiguan together, some to escape famine, some to escape suffering, and some to seek development opportunities.

In the early Qing dynasty, in order to consolidate the rule, Manchu people were not allowed to go to the northeast, which was even more desolate. After the Opium War broke out, Russia and Japan were very interested in the Northeast, so the Qing government ordered the opening up and banned people from going to the Northeast. There was a famous population migration in the late Qing Dynasty, which was called "crossing the Kanto" in history. People, mainly from Shandong, flocked to the northeast to rebuild their homes with the same dream. The same story, the same fate, these ancestors of the East have closely linked the three northeastern provinces.

Second, the three northeastern provinces have shaped almost the same northeast culture.

Moreover, due to long-term historical reasons, we have become accustomed to the fact that Northeasters are called Northeasters, which is a concept in the whole country and even the whole world. The third reason is the frequent division of regions.

The change of administrative divisions in Northeast China makes the status of Northeast China as a province inferior to that of inland provinces. Relatively stable administrative divisions can increase people's sense of identity with the province. Since the ban on opening to the northeast was lifted in Daoguang period, the administrative divisions of northeast provinces have changed frequently. In just one or two decades, the sense of identity of Northeast people in their respective provinces has been greatly reduced. Since 1907, great changes have taken place in the administrative divisions of Northeast China, making it difficult for Northeasters to tell which province they belong to, rather than saying that they are Northeasters.

Finally, the northeast region was closed, and the main body was surrounded by Daxinganling, Heilongjiang and Changbai Mountain. There is only a small opening in the southwest connecting the North China Plain. It is inconvenient to contact with the outside world. At the same time, the northeast region is rich in products. Based on Manchuria's industrialization, people can be self-sufficient. In addition, there is little difference between folk culture and dialects in Northeast China, which makes the communication frequency inside Northeast China much higher than outside. Therefore, "the Northeast family, regardless of each other."

Northeast China is a fertile land. Sometimes people in the northeast say that they are from the northeast, largely because they are United and like to be United in everything, so saying that they are from the northeast can avoid a lot of unnecessary troubles. Even if a northeast person only introduces himself as a northeast person, he will be considered as a very straightforward person.
