Wisdom tooth

At the beginning, thousands of ants circled alone and gathered into the word "wisdom teeth". The film took eight years from planning to production. Hong Kong's dirty and humid streets, stylized lens texture and high-density narrative information make Hong Kong feel eschatological.

The story tells the story of two policemen, an old man and a newcomer, investigating a serial murder case, but inexplicably involving a series of accidents. It stands to reason that such an old-fashioned Hong Kong suspense police film is not a new theme. Moreover, wisdom teeth are really a little thin in the design of the story, but the simpler it is, the more you can see the only theme behind the story-human nature.

Garbage trucks, garbage dumps, and "garbage" abandoned by society, the whole film filmed the dirtiest Hong Kong and humanity from the dirtiest perspective. Wang Tao (Liu Yase) bumped into Zhan Ge (Lin Jiadong)' s wife because of a drunken driving, which turned her into a vegetable. In order to get revenge, Zhan Ge, who deeply loves his wife, pushed her to death again and again after meeting Wang Tao again, while Wang Tao, who wanted to live in a dark gap, didn't even think about it and longed for redemption. After seeing Zhan Ge again, Wang Tao was very excited. On the contrary, Zhan Ge ruthlessly drove Wang Tao away, but after learning that Zhan Ge abused lynching, no one in the police station intervened and stopped him. In the film, as a defender of justice, the image of the police is vague. After all, who is nobler than who and who is cleaner than who?

Black-and-white pictures hide more blood and embarrassment, which not only take care of the audience's psychology of watching movies, but may even express the gloom, despair and helplessness of society through this gray scale. Some fragmented pictures in the film are also particularly deliberate. The body hidden in the idol, the stinking body in the garbage truck and the passers-by eating melons, the busy main road and the murder scene in the garbage dump are separated by a wall, but they are worlds apart. The garbage discarded by the rapidly developing society has become ants and flies, and it is judged that it is no longer worthy of the prosperity and bustle of the city.

In the second half of the film, in the garbage dump where Wang Tao was imprisoned, the Virgin Mary and the deer wrapped in ropes stood there majestically. Blurred statues, deer imprisoned by ropes, the sanctity of Christianity and the justice of Buddhism all hope to change the world through human beliefs. At this moment, the murderer committed atrocities against Wang Tao, but he could not interfere with reality. At this moment, the gods seem to be a fatal irony.

One of my favorite scenes is definitely the corridor chase between Zhan Ge and Wang Tao. Brother Zhan tried his best to hunt down the suspect, and Wang Tao tried his best to avoid the enemy's pursuit. Two unrelated story lines push the struggle and conflict to a climax through cross montage, and it is here that the two stories meet and the fatalism of the characters is infinitely magnified.

Of course, there are also many illogical places in the film. For example, two policemen locked Wang Tong in an unattended place in order to find the missing gun. The murderer was a Japanese immigrant with inexplicable Oedipus complex. The fighting scene dragged on, and Zhan Ge finally found Wang Tong without calling her name, which led to his manslaughter. But all this can't stop it from becoming a good movie. Smooth rhythm control, weakened suspended plot and focused "social garbage". At the end of the film, Ren Kai said to Tong Wang, "Brother Zhan asked me to tell you I'm sorry". She finally got the redemption she wanted, but what she heard was not pardon. She can finally say goodbye to the past, but inevitably she will be shrouded in self-blame for killing Brother Zhan by mistake again.

Dirty and kindness are intertwined, forming a dark background of society. People are trapped here, and finally find themselves just ants circling in the same place, unable to find an exit to the light. When dealing with evil, we often remind ourselves to tame evil, but forget to tell ourselves not to be evil, let alone indulge in it.
