The name and origin of Jingzhou street

The main road names in Jingzhou are all named after geographical locations, such as Jingbei Road and Jingnan Road.

Quyuan Road is the only main road named after ancient celebrities in Jingzhou, which runs from north to south, starting from Xiaobeimen in the north and ending at Jingnan Road in the south. It was named in memory of the great patriotic poet Qu Yuan.

Another road named after ancient celebrities is Zhangjie, which starts from Gonganmen in the east and ends at the Bell and Drum Tower in the west. Zhangjie is the only way out of the east gate of Jingzhou before the construction of Jiulong Bridge. It was named in memory of Zhang Shi, the governor of Jingzhou in Ming Dynasty.

Sanyi Street is the best existing ancient road in Jingzhou. The whole street is paved with bluestone slabs, running from north to south, starting from the North Gate in the north and reaching Zhong Jing Road in the south. Now at the intersection of Sanyi Street and Zhong Jing Road, you can also see a tall vermilion archway, which makes the whole street look antique. Sanyi Street was named after Guan Yu once guarded Jingzhou, and later named to commemorate the friendship between Liu, Guan and Zhang.
