Jiulongdian Reservoir is located on Zidian River, a tributary of Longchuan River on the right bank of Jinsha River in the northwest of Chuxiong City, Chuxiong Prefecture, Yunnan Province, 4 1 and 6 km away from Chuxiong City and 6/km away from Liuhe Town 1 1 km away.
Jiulongdian Reservoir was built in 1958 and put into storage in 1959. It is the largest medium-sized reservoir in Chuxiong Prefecture and an important drinking water source.
The project was strengthened in 2003.
The reinforced Jiulongdian Reservoir is an earth-rock dam with a dam height of 40.3m, a dam crest elevation of 1904.2m, a total storage capacity of 7148.83 million cubic meters, a storage capacity of 5,253.55 million cubic meters, a flood control storage capacity of1650,000 cubic meters and a dead storage capacity of 265,438.
