Where is the least populated place in China?

Yumai Township is the least populated township in China, which belongs to Zi Long County, Shannan City, Xizang Autonomous Region. It is located in the border area between China and India at the southern foot of the Himalayas, with a land area of 1976 square kilometers. It is the largest township in Zi Long County, with an altitude of 3,560 meters.

Yumai Township is of great strategic significance, because it is close to the disputed border area between China and India, and because China initially only held nearly 2,000 square kilometers of land left behind by a family of three. For the outside world, Yumai Township is still one of the most sensitive and difficult places to reach on the Sino-Indian border.

The map of China shows that Yumai's land area was originally 3,664 square kilometers, but China actually controlled only 1976 square kilometers, which was occupied by Indians, and this is precisely the most fertile land and the most pleasant climate in Yumai. If the illegal "McMahon Line" is a scar in the Himalayas, then Yumai is its deep "wound".

Yumai Township has more than 20 households with more than 300 people at its largest time in history. After the founding of New China, with the democratic reform in Tibet, the plateau has undergone earth-shaking changes. Many places have access to highways, and living and production conditions change rapidly. The residents of Yumai have also moved out of Yumai, where the traffic is blocked, and have lived a "better life".

From 1979 to 1996, there were only three people living in 1 household in the township 1967 square kilometers, that is, the Zhuoga family. Father Sanjiquba is a township head and his two daughters are villagers. The children's mother died of illness in her early years.

Until 1996, the county sent a secretary of the township party Committee to Yumai Township. My father retired, my eldest daughter Zhuo Ga served as the township head, and a doctor served as a teacher and deputy township head.

Today, the population here has increased from 1 household with 3 people to 9 households with 3 1 person, and they continue to guard the fertile land of 1.976 square kilometers.

Compared with the dry and oxygen-deficient environment in most parts of Tibet, Yumai at an altitude of 3,500 meters can be called "Xanadu": the Indian Ocean warm current has brought abundant rain here, where the vegetation is lush and the air is fresh, and it is in a virgin forest area formed over thousands of years. Although the air is humid and the rain is abundant, there is almost no sunshine here all year round, which makes it impossible to grow any crops in this originally rich land.

In winter, heavy snow will close the mountain. Before June 1 1 every year, my father Shan Zhi Quba transported the materials from Zi Long County to QuSong Cun under the Rila Snow Mountain, and then spent five days driving 10 horses over the Rila Snow Mountain to transport the rations for seven months to Yumai Township, during which horses often fell into the unfathomable Yumai Valley.

Even though they endure the unbearable harsh conditions of ordinary people, they still stick to this land. During this period, Sanjay Quba's family stayed for three years 17 years. 17 years, they used the unbearable loneliness of ordinary people to keep company with the mountains. Sanjay Quba often says to her daughter, "If we leave, there will be no one in this land!" This sentence, the two daughters remembered for a lifetime.

From 1 household to 9 households with 3 1 person, perhaps only the villagers in Yumai Township really understand the meaning of "the world is too small". Eight families are all Tibetans, only a hundred meters apart. They formed a big family here. In the "secluded" "Xanadu", Yumai people showed their tenacity in life.

Time is like a snowy mountain, bearing in mind every period of history. Time is like Yumai River, flowing for a long time.

Today's Yumai Township is already "prosperous". Yumai people have a heavier responsibility than ordinary people from the day they live in this land: I come from China, and my task is to defend the territory of the motherland.
