It's time to wake up. The chip talent gap is as high as 240,000! 12 times the salary difference is a "pain point"
According to a data provided by the American Semiconductor Association, in 2020, the semiconductor industry in the United States will provide 6.5438+0.85 million jobs, of which Asian workers account for 28% and whites account for 52%.
From this data, we can easily see that China people have played a key role in the development of science and technology in the United States. It is worth noting that the total number of China people working in Silicon Valley has exceeded 250,000. And in the past 40 years, more than 20,000 talents from Northern Qing Dynasty chose to stay in Silicon Valley.
Such data once again shows that the brain drain in our domestic semiconductor field is very serious. In contrast, the chip talent gap in our country is quite large. According to public information, with the rapid development of the chip industry, it is estimated that the demand for talents in this industry will reach 740,000 around 2022. Another data shows that the chip talent gap in China has reached 240,000.
Comparing the number of people working in Silicon Valley with the number of chip talents in our country, the presentation of this data really deserves our deep thinking. Therefore, many people remain silent in their complaints about our brain drain, which is very "sad". So why on earth do we have such a big chip talent gap? Why can't we stop brain drain?
Some professionals have analyzed two pain points. The first is that the academic atmosphere in our domestic semiconductor field is not good, and the problem of "seniority" is really a cliche. In such an atmosphere, retaining more talents is a big problem. The second pain point is the issue of "salary".
In fact, for these two issues, I personally feel that the status quo of chip talents is more inclined to the second one, that is, the salary issue.
Not long ago, SMIC announced Liang Mengsong's salary, with an annual salary of 8 million. For ordinary people, this data may be quite a lot. But for the chip industry, it is almost interesting, especially compared with other enterprises in the same industry. According to the data released by TSMC, Wei Zhejia's annual income is 96 million yuan. It can be seen that Liang Mengsong's salary difference is 12 times.
In fact, this comparison is not the most appropriate, because we are comparing a higher-level salary comparison. In fact, among the scientific and technological talents at the grassroots level, the salary is not that high. We can look at the following set of pictures, in which we can clearly see that there is a big gap between our domestic salary level and other enterprises.
Under the obvious contrast of salary, we can also clearly see that this is the "pain point" of our current talent gap. Without more talents, our development in semiconductors will be difficult. It's like TSMC and Qualcomm are among the best in salary and market position just because they have more talents.
Therefore, personally, I think it is time for us to wake up. Instead of worrying about the "outflow" of their own talents, it is better to think deeply about the "salary" pain point of the semiconductor industry.
Write it at the end
In fact, we have also made some efforts in the shortage of talents in the domestic semiconductor industry. For example, integrate integrated circuits into first-class disciplines and make every effort to train talents for the integrated circuit industry. However, I still think this is a means to cure the problem. If the salary range is not greatly improved, with the increasing demand for talents in the chip industry, we are likely to be more and more short of talents in the future.
