Why is there "Huguang filling Sichuan"

1. Huguang's filling in Sichuan refers to a large-scale immigration in the Qing Dynasty. According to research, residents of more than ten provinces such as Hubei, Jiangxi, Fujian and Guangxi are also among the immigrants.

2. During the late Yuan Dynasty, the late Ming Dynasty and the early Qing Dynasty, Sichuan experienced war and its population dropped sharply. Therefore, governments at all levels, from central to local, have taken a series of measures to attract foreign immigrants, among which Huguang Province has the largest population.

3. After reunification, the Qing government implemented a series of "filling Sichuan" policies, mainly to encourage immigrants from other provinces to enter Sichuan to reclaim land. For example, it is stipulated that those who wish to enter Sichuan will be given mu of land for permanent operation, while those poor people who bring their wives to Sichuan from various provinces will be allowed to be naturalized.

4. The preferential policy of recruiting people into Sichuan is closely related to the promotion of officials at all levels and encouraging reclamation to recruit people, and additional preferential policies are implemented in tax policy. Kangxi issued a letter to immigrants to reclaim land, stipulating that no tax will be levied for five years, and the breeding population will never increase;

5. It is also stipulated that the authorities in the place of origin of immigrants and those who have settled in Sichuan should cooperate with the migration verification, arrange household registration and incorporate them into Garbo. These policies have created a good environment and conditions for immigrants.
