Geography of Yongkang District

Yongkang District has developed industry and commerce and transportation, and the headquarters of Uni-President Enterprise, Dacheng Great Wall Enterprise and Kecheng Technology are all located here. The top 20 banks and well-known catering operators in Taiwan Province Province have set up several strongholds in this area. Yongkang was a traditional first-class and second-class industrial town before1980s. However, after the completion of Zhongshan Expressway, the traffic conditions were improved, and the urban area of Tainan expanded to the northeast. Yongkang attracted the relocation of all new districts and even other urban areas in Tainan, and entered a period of rapid growth.

Zhongshan Expressway runs through the middle, and the railway also runs through several stations. With the development of Tainan metropolitan area, the population has increased rapidly and become a typical immigrant metropolitan area. According to the statistics of 1946, Yongkang Township (now Yongkang District) has a population of 18062 and 1977 with a population of 67763, surpassing Xinying Town (now Xinying Camp) and becoming the largest district in Tainan County. 1993 exceeded150,000, and was upgraded to a municipal district, with a population of 200,000 in 2002.
