Vancouver island in 1849 and New Caledonia in 1858 were successively colonized. Because of the Columbia River, the Queen added the word "Britain" before the name of the colony and renamed it "British Columbia", which is called British Columbia in Chinese. 1866 Vancouver merged into British Columbia.
Before the British Columbia colony joined Canada, it ceded a lot of land and handed over Oregon territory (now Washington, USA) to the United States, which was finally completely lost. Finally, the colony had to move its capital to the southern border to show that it would not cede territory.
