Fei Zhengqing is a tenured professor at Harvard University, a famous historian, the most prestigious observer of China in the United States, a leading figure in the field of modern and contemporary history of China in the United States, "the number one expert on China" and the founder of Harvard East Asia Research Center. Before his death, he served as vice chairman of the American Far East Association, chairman of the Asian Association, chairman of the Historical Society, and chairman of the East Asian Research Council. He is also a US government employee, social activist and policy adviser. Fei Zhengqing devoted himself to China for 50 years. Most of his works were about China from the time he entered Oxford until his death.

Since the mid-1970s, Kong Feili began to study the history of overseas Chinese immigrants. He used to be the director of the Fei Zhengqing Research Center of Harvard University and the head of the Far East Language and Culture Department of the University of Chicago.
