Why does Sikkim belong to India?

Sikkim, called Zhemengxiong in ancient times, was once a part of Tibet in China. Historically, Gurkhas (ancient Nepalese) invaded, and the Qing government sent Fu Kang 'an and Hailancha to lead the Qing army to expel Gurkhas.

/kloc-At the beginning of the 9th century, with the expansion of British colonial authorities' interests in India, they tried to separate Tibet from the central government, invaded Sikkim and set up a buffer zone, which was gradually compromised and acquiesced by the Qing government.

1890 On February 27th, Qing Dynasty Minister Sheng Tai in Tibet and British Governor-General Henry Charles Keith Lansdowne in India signed the Sino-British Treaty on Tibet and India, with eight clauses. The main contents are as follows: the Qing court admitted that Sikkim was protected by Britain; Delineating the border between China and Sikkim; Nomadic and trade issues will be discussed later. As a result, Sikkim became Britain's "protectorate".

19 18, the British colonists returned the political power to King Tahi Nangale. King Tahi carried out many economic and social reforms, abolished all kinds of unpaid labor, thoroughly inspected the tax system, abolished the administrative and judicial functions of landlords, and began land reform.

1947 After India gradually became independent, the Indian authorities tried to restore the former British colonial sphere of influence, directly sent troops to Sikkim, controlled economic, military, diplomatic and other powers, and gradually immigrated to Sikkim on a large scale. 1975, King Sikkim's Guard was officially dissolved, King Sikkim was placed under house arrest, and a so-called referendum was held to formally annex Sikkim and establish Sikkim State.

The government of China has never considered that India has sovereignty over Sikkim, and has always insisted that Sikkim is an independent kingdom. However, with the development of Sino-Indian border trade, politics and economy, this view has gradually loosened. In 2005, the relevant departments officially issued the Notice on the Change of the Representation Method of Sikkim on the Map, which gradually acquiesced in the established reality of Sikkim.
