According to the "Exit and Entry Administration Law of the People's Republic of China":
Article 9 Chinese citizens leaving or entering the country must apply for passports or other travel documents in accordance with the law.
Chinese citizens traveling to other countries or regions also need to obtain a visa or other entry permit for the country of destination. However, this does not apply unless the Chinese government has signed a mutual visa exemption agreement with the governments of other countries or if the Ministry of Public Security or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs provides otherwise.
Chinese citizens who enter or exit the country as seafarers or work on foreign ships must apply for a seafarer's certificate in accordance with the law.
Article 22 Foreigners who meet any of the following circumstances are exempted from visa application:
(1) According to mutual visa exemption agreements signed between the Chinese government and other governments, Those who are exempted from visa application;
(2) Those who hold valid foreigner residence documents;
(3) Those who hold connecting tickets to board international aircraft, ships or trains from China is transiting to a third country or region, staying in China for no more than 24 hours without leaving the port, or staying in a specific area approved by the State Council for no more than the prescribed time limit;

The validity period of a foreigner’s stay permit is up to 180 days.
