Where is Chahar province now?
In the long history, some provinces disappeared with the passage of time and the change of dynasties. Eight provinces such as Xikang, Jehol and Songjiang "disappeared" from the map of China, and Chahar is one of them. Today, I will share the history of Chahar Province with you.
Chahar is an ancient Turkic language, which means "Great Khan Guard" when translated into Chinese. It originated from the Chahar department of the Mongols and is one of the most famous tribes of the Mongols. During the Ming Dynasty, the headquarters of Chahar was composed of eight tribes. In order to prevent the late Jin Nurhachi regime from invading the south, the imperial court and Li Dan Khan of Chahar Department grazing in Xuanhua and Zhangjiakou joined forces to resist the late Jin Dynasty. Hou Jin is not a soft persimmon, so he sent heavy troops to attack. Li Dan Khan was defeated and forced to move westward to the west outside the Great Wall of Xuanhua Prefecture, taking control of Tumote and other departments. After Huang taiji came to power, he decided to conquer Chahar and other departments first.
1635, Ezhe, the son of Li Dan Khan, was captured, surrendered to Jin, and was later incorporated into the Eight Banners and placed in Yizhou, Liaoning Province. At this time, Chahar was called "Bird Special Zone". It borders Jehol Province and northern Liaoning Province in the east, Zhili Province in the south, Suiyuan Province and Shanxi Province in the west, and Xing 'an Province in the north. It is an important place to defend the capital and has important military strategic significance.
19 13, the government set up the Chahar special area, including the old place of Chahar, Koubei Road in Zhili Province, Xilin Gol League and Suiyuan Dutong. In the second year, the administrative region added Jining, Kangbao, Changbao and Shangdu counties. 1928, the government of the Republic of China changed Chahar Special Zone into Chahar Province. At this point, Chahar Province was officially born, with Wanquan County as its capital, referred to as "Cha". Its responsible areas include Yanqing County in Beijing, most areas of Xilin Gol League in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Zhangjiakou City in Hebei Province and the eastern part of Wulanchabu City. Chahar province is divided into South Chahar and North Chahar by the Great Wall, and the Chabei desert extends to the border between China and Mongolia.
1933, the Great Wall Campaign broke out. Subsequently, the Japanese army attacked North China and occupied parts of Chahar Province. In order to resist the Japanese army, Feng Yuxiang, Ji Hongchang and others set up the Chahar People's Anti-Japanese Coalition in Zhangjiakou on May 26th. The following month, the unit took the initiative to attack the Japanese army in Chahar and Jehol, and successfully drove the Japanese army out of Chahar in mid-July. This is the first time since the September 18th Incident that China's army has recovered its lost territory. However, the government of the Republic of China sent troops to Zhangjiakou under the pretext of unified military orders, and the anti-Japanese Coalition forces in Chahar were forced to dissolve.
After the full-scale outbreak of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, Chahar Province was occupied by the Japanese army. 1From May to June, 1945, our army launched the "Zhanan Campaign" in the Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei Border Region, recovered Huai 'an and other counties, and then developed to the Heping-Suilu area in Chabei. After the end of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, our army dispatched 53,000 troops from Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei and Jinsui Military Regions to attack Fu, with the aim of blocking the Eastern Jin Dynasty in Fu. Fu was no match for our army and was forced to withdraw westward, but he was unwilling.
1946, our army launched the Jining campaign in Datong, and Fu took advantage of our main advantage to occupy Zhangjiakou. 1947, the government of the Republic of China changed the capital of Chahar Province to Bird, now qiaoxi district, Zhangjiakou City. It was not until the end of 1948 that our army recovered Zhangjiakou and the government of the Republic of China in Chahar Province completely ended.
