What does studying abroad mean?

Studying abroad is a mode of studying and living overseas and learning while playing.

China State Education Commission 1987 issued "Detailed Rules for the Management of the Identity of Public Students Studying Abroad", which stipulates that the identity of public students studying abroad can be divided into college students, graduate students, advanced learners or visiting scholars according to their learning purposes.

They are all determined before going abroad and cannot be changed after going abroad. Scholars who go abroad for further study or visit are not allowed to study for degrees while abroad, but it is acceptable that foreign tutors and schools are willing to award degrees if they complete the study or research project plan determined before going abroad within the prescribed study period.

Through study and work, domestic visiting scholars get in touch with and understand the academic frontier dynamics of this discipline, deepen basic theories, broaden their knowledge, improve their academic level, and lay a foundation for playing the role of academic leaders or academic backbones after returning to their original units.

Domestic visiting scholars must have solid basic theory and professional knowledge, strong ability to engage in teaching and scientific research independently, and have certain practical experience, and should generally be associate professors.

Units that accept domestic visiting scholars should have doctoral tutors or professors with deep academic attainments as instructors, carry out better scientific research, and have better conditions in experimental equipment, books and materials. Generally, it should be a discipline point with the right to confer doctoral degrees or a key laboratory invested by the state.

Under the guidance of tutors, domestic visiting scholars mainly participate in scientific research, assist in guiding graduate students, participate in compiling teaching materials or other teaching work, and tutors are fully responsible for training. The term is generally six months to one year.
