Brief introduction of Hakka in Guangdong

Hakka people in Guangdong do not refer to the guests living in other places as we usually say, but to an important ethnic group living in Lingnan area with thousands of years' history, which is relative to Guangfu and Chaoshan ethnic groups. Please don't call Hakkas immigrants. The Minnan people and Hakkas in Taiwan Province Province moved to Taiwan Province Province only in the Qing Dynasty, and they are all called natives of this province. Moreover, mainlanders who moved to Guangdong after the reform and opening up called themselves Cantonese. Moreover, Hakka people have moved to Lingnan Guangdong for thousands of years (not just Hakka people), and have long been one of the important local ethnic groups in Lingnan Guangdong and other provinces. The three major ethnic groups in Guangdong Province (Guangfu, Chaoshan and Hakka) are all mixed by the earliest indigenous Baiyue ethnic group in Lingnan.

Hakka clan was formed later than Guangfu clan and Chaoshan clan, but Hakka did not arrive in Guangdong later than the other two clans. The earliest settlers in Meizhou, Heyuan and Huizhou, Guangdong Province, were Hakkas of Baiyue ethnic group. At that time, there was no concept of Hakka (the concept of Hakka was finally formed very late). Since then, although the Han people who went south have mixed with the ancient Vietnamese immigrants from the Fujian-Guangdong-Jiangxi triangle to a certain extent, their main body still comes from the Central Plains.

Hakka is one of the three major ethnic groups in Lingnan. Their ancestors originated from the Central Plains and Lingnan aborigines, and finally formed in Lingnan. Hakka people in Guangdong often follow the example of talented men, inspire and educate their children and grandchildren, and learn from their predecessors who have made great achievements. Some people say: Where there is the sun, there are China people, and where there are China people, there are Hakkas. Others say: where there is sunshine, there are Hakkas; Where there is a piece of land, there are Hakkas who live in groups, work hard and reproduce. Hakkas are called "Oriental Jews" because they travel around the world, emigrate to the world, and there are many successful people in overseas business circles.

Overseas, many countries and regions have Hakka settlements in Guangdong (originated from the southward migration movement of Hakka hundreds of years ago), especially Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and other places in Southeast Asia. Hakka, Chaozhou, Minnan and Cantonese are important components of local languages.
