Immigrant characteristics of wealthy immigrants
Center for china and globalization and the School of Law of Beijing Institute of Technology released China's first annual report on international migration, China International Migration Report (20 12), saying that China is experiencing the third "migration tide", with elite immigrants as the main feature, and the main groups are people with high academic qualifications and high net worth.
Wang, director of the center for china and globalization, said in an interview with China Youth Daily that although the main population of the current immigration tide is investment immigrants, skilled immigrants still occupy an absolute advantage in quantity. "From last year's data, the proportion of skilled immigrants and investment immigrants from China to major countries is about 10: 1."
"The phenomenon of investment immigration of the mass class is the most obvious feature that this immigration tide is different from the past." Wang said that today's immigrants not only have money, but also show a trend of "having a degree" and "being younger". The first time happened at the beginning of reform and opening up. During this period, a large number of Cantonese and Zhejiang people ate the crabs of immigrants as "illegal immigrants" and "migrant workers". The second wave of immigrants occurred from the end of 1980s to the end of last century, especially skilled immigrants. China is in the third wave of immigration, and "going abroad with a lot of wealth" has become the biggest feature of immigration at this stage.
The White Paper on the Wealth of China's Mass Wealthy Class published by Forbes magazine shows that by the end of 20 12, the mass affluent class in China had reached10.26 million, of which nearly 20% had the intention of emigrating, that is, more than 2 million people had the idea of emigrating.
"1994, Canada opened its immigration policy to China, but it didn't reach its first peak until 1997." Although Zhao Dan, a Beijing immigration consultant, has a different understanding of China's immigration stage, he also thinks that China is experiencing another immigration tide.
Thirty years ago, about two-thirds of China immigrants were relatives. Two-thirds of immigrants are applicants for study visas and work visas for skilled immigrants and investment immigrants, technical talents, professionals, investors and entrepreneurs.
"A large part of skilled immigrants in China stay overseas through the path of' study abroad-work-immigration'." Wang said that most of them are top students in China, and at least they will get bachelor's degrees abroad. And most highly educated people, such as doctors, will choose to stay in the end.
According to the statistics of Oak Ridge United University, from 200 1 to 2009, 58% ~ 62% of foreign doctoral students still chose to stay in the United States five years after graduation. Among them, in the field of science and engineering, the retention rate of doctoral students in China is the highest, reaching 98% at the highest.
In Zhao Dan's view, the "high education" and "younger age" of immigrants are not absolute.
"Skilled immigrant applicants are relatively young, mostly between the ages of 25 and 40, with high academic qualifications and fluent English to meet the professional needs of immigrant countries." Zhao Dan said that taking the scoring mechanism of Canadian skilled immigrants as an example, 2 1 to 36 years old is a perfect score. For those who are over-aged, one point will be deducted for each additional year.
As for investment immigrants, Zhao Dan said that they are older, mostly between 35 and 55 years old, because they have higher requirements on assets and need certain management experience.
