New regulations for people staying in the UK for more than 6 months
According to information provided by the British Embassy in China, the British Minister of State for the Home Office and Member of the House of Commons Tony McNulty announced on the 12th a new entry permit requirement for people staying in the UK for more than 6 months.
Starting from November 13, 2005, all citizens of non-EEA member states who wish to live in the UK for more than 6 months need to obtain an entry permit from a British diplomatic mission before traveling. .
Once granted entry permission, applicants pay a one-time fee of £85 to stay in the UK for a specified period without having to apply for a residence permit (unless they wish to change or extend their stay).
My note:
The new entry permit scheme will be implemented in phases over a two-year period. The first phase was implemented on November 13, 2005, covering 10 countries.
?British expatriates (overseas) and other British expatriates without right of abode in the UK can continue to travel to the UK without having to apply for an entry permit and entry application.
Like the first phase, there will be an operable grace date before January 13, 2006. During this period, any passenger arriving at a UK port who is eligible to enter but does not have the necessary entry permit will be allowed to enter the UK.
? It is planned to amend the "Immigration Law" before Parliament this fall. You can find information about Immigration Law at: www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk.
