This small town in Anhui is the capital of idioms and the birthplace of tofu. Its museum is second only to the Provincial Museum.

Anhui is rich in tourism resources, has many scenic spots, and has an equally profound historical heritage. The places we talk about most are always Huangshan and Hongcun, the ancient Huizhou areas in southern Anhui. In fact, Anhui is not limited to these. In Huainan, Anhui, there is a small county with a profound cultural heritage, which is definitely worth savoring.

This small town under Huainan City is called Shouxian County and is located at the foot of Bagong Mountain. Shouxian County is the birthplace of tofu. It was accidentally created by Huainan King Liu An when he was refining alchemy. It has been passed down to this day and has become one of the delicacies loved by people across the country.

It is precisely because of King Huainan that he also brought many idioms to Shouxian County, such as "one person can achieve enlightenment, chickens and dogs ascend to heaven". But what people don’t expect is that Shouxian County is also a city of idioms. Familiar idioms such as the roar of the wind and the cranes, the grass and trees are all fighting, etc. also originate from here.

Both the vegetation and the rumbling winds and cranes originated from the famous Battle of Feishui in history. It is not difficult to see that Shouxian County was also a battleground for military strategists in ancient times and had a certain military status. The current small town of Shouxian County is an ancient city where life is comfortable. It is worth mentioning that the ancient city wall built in the Song Dynasty is still preserved, and even the four-door barbican is intact. Although it has been repaired many times, it has a history of more than 900 years.

Therefore, there are many historical cultural relics in Shouxian Museum. Although the venue is not very gorgeous, the cultural relics cover the glorious history of this land from the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period to the Wei and Jin Dynasties. Therefore, looking at the entire Anhui Province, the visiting value of the Shouxian Museum may be second only to the Anhui Provincial Museum.

The main exhibits in the museum include weapons, chariots and horses, as well as daily utensils such as clay pots from the Warring States Period. If we were to introduce the most important treasure in the museum, it would be a small gold coffin unearthed at Baoen Temple in Shouxian County during the Northern Song Dynasty and used to store relics. When it was unearthed, the gold coffin also contained a silver coffin, which shows the high status of the relic. Of course, this golden coffin is only mini-sized, but the lines on it are still delicate and clear.

The Shouxian Museum is located on the West Street of Cross Street in the ancient city of Shouxian County, opposite the Confucius Temple. You only need to swipe your ID card to enter the museum and there is no need to buy tickets. The recommended tour time is 1 to 2 hours, and the museum is closed every Monday.
