Why is Hami in Xinjiang so hot in summer, but Qujing in Yunnan so cold?

When it comes to latitude, Xinjiang has a higher latitude than Qujing, Yunnan, so it should be colder, but the temperature is not only determined by latitude, but also by altitude. Yunnan Qujing is 1,890 meters above sea level, and Turpan, Xinjiang, is more than 150 meters above sea level. Generally, for every 1,000 meters of altitude increase, the temperature drops by 6 degrees. Qujing’s normal summer is more than 12 degrees lower than Turpan.

Our summer in Qujing generally does not exceed 30 degrees, and residents do not have air conditioners in their homes. In addition, Yunnan has good precipitation conditions and high vegetation coverage.
