How to Go Home takes us into the life of Lebanese refugees.
Capernaum is a place name in the Bible, which is an area near the Sea of Galilee. When Jesus began to preach, he moved here, and many miracles and important things happened here.
Jesus once mentioned in the gospel of Luke, "Capernaum, you have ascended to heaven and will be pushed down to the underworld."
Capernaum means chaos in Arabic. Isn't Lebanon now, from a rich country in the Middle East to a slum now, exactly as Jesus predicted?
People who don't know it may not have the urge to watch it when they see the title of Capernaum. Why is Home is obviously more straightforward and more easily accepted by us.
The film begins with flashbacks and tells the court story of a small town in Lebanon. Cha, a boy of 12 years old, was sentenced to prison for stabbing someone with a knife, but he wanted to sue his parents because they gave birth to him but failed to raise him properly.
Zain lives in a poor family. As the eldest son (his brother is in prison), in order to support himself and his younger brother and sister, he was forced to work in the landlord's grocery store, sell juice in the street, and even sell drugs with his parents.
Zain, a little boy, was not a very likable character when he first appeared. He is mature and sophisticated for his age. It seems that he was forced to grow up in order to adapt to this difficult living environment.
However, despite his unruly appearance, he actually has a kind heart. He stubbornly used his own way as a resistance to protect his closest people.
When I found my sister's menarche, I took her to the toilet. /kloc-when he was 0/2 years old, he stood in front of the tap to help her wash her underwear and took off her coat to give her a cushion.
He told his sister seriously that his parents could not know about it. Because he 12 years old, he has always been sensitive to what menarche means, and he is also very aware of the landlord's special care for his sister and his parents' wishful thinking.
Unfortunately, Zain didn't have time to leave home with his sister, which was discovered by his parents, who sold his sister to the landlord.
Very sad, Zain ran away from home and went to a seaside town, where Zain was taken in by Rakhil, an Ethiopian immigrant, to take care of her one-year-old son Jonas.
Zain felt the love and warmth that his parents lacked in Rakhil, which was undoubtedly the happiest time for Zain since he grew up.
Unfortunately, because the forged ID card expired and Rachiele could not afford a new one, he was taken to prison by the police.
So Zane took Jonas on a wandering journey. In order to take care of Jonas, Zain sold everything he could, made his own tramadol potion, and went to the drugstore to get relief supplies ... Zain tried his best to survive for them.
However, forced by life, Zain finally had to hand Jonas over to the traffickers in exchange for the opportunity to go abroad.
In order to get his own identification and escape from this hellhole, Zain went home, but his father told him that he was a black household and had no identification.
At the same time, Zain was surprised to learn that his first wife's sister was pregnant and bleeding heavily. Because she was a black household, the hospital refused treatment and finally died.
Heartbroken Zain picked up the knife in the drawer and rushed to the landlord. ...
At this point, the film finally connected with the beginning. Cha was sentenced to prison for wounding with a knife. When he learned that his mother was pregnant again, he decided to sue his parents, because they gave birth to him, but they didn't raise him well. They just wanted to keep themselves alive through their children.
I held back my tears when I watched it, but in the last scene, the photographer cried when he took Zain's appraisal. Although the film gave a happy ending, we all know that there is no such thing as luck in reality.
I don't think my feelings would be so profound if I didn't know later that Zain was not a professional actor, but a real Syrian refugee.
I think the reason why this film can make so many viewers burst into tears and feel deeply is inseparable from the authenticity of the film itself.
In "Capernaum", director Nadine Labaki focuses on the expression through the picture itself. A large number of hand-held follow-up shots and semi-documentary live-action shots let us know the real face of their lives more clearly.
The film begins with a series of aerial shots, and then goes straight into Zain's life, narrow corridors, messy rooms and chaotic streets. ...
The use of non-professional actors makes the film have a strong sense of substitution, and we soon realize that this is not just a movie, but a real thing.
In order to express their true thoughts and feelings, there are many live performances in the film. For example, when Zain was chasing his sister, he suddenly ran, and all the people in the photography team followed, so there was a long hand-held camera lens, which shook violently like a documentary.
It took more than five years to produce "Why Do You Do What You Do at Home", and the previous actual investigation was carried out for three years. During this period, the script gradually took shape, with people who really lived in the film background as actors, which truly restored the current situation of the bottom society in Lebanon.
The director of Hollywood Report is special in that she has real empathy and patience, works well with these actors, and has enough budget to shoot hundreds of hours of scenes in order to make the film more convincing emotionally.
Why Home is a movie worth watching. It gives us an idea of the life of Lebanese refugees. I think every audience will be moved by it after reading it. What it wants to express is self-evident.
