Translation of German niederlassungserlaubnis

It means: allow to settle down.

Simplification of residential form

Simplifying the form of residence is one of the main links for the Immigration Law to replace the original provisions of the Aliens Law. In the era of "Alien Law", there are four main forms of residence: residence permit (Aufenthaltsbewilligung), residence authorization (Aufenthaltsbefugnis), residence permit (Aufenthaltserlaubnis) and residence right (Aufenthaltsberechtigung).

The so-called "right of abode" is a real green card, or permanent right of abode. "Berechtigung" generally means that you have this right and can't drive you away under any circumstances. An indefinite "residence permit" is still just a "permit". Under special circumstances (such as serious violation of German law), you can still be deported.

The "Immigration Law" simplifies the four forms of residence into two, namely "Aufenthaltserlaubnis" and "Niederlassungserlaubnis". Section 4 of Chapter 2 of the Immigration Law (Kapitel 2,4) clearly stipulates that only foreigners with one of the three residence permits can legally stay in Germany: 1. Visa; 2. Residence permit; 3. Residence permit.
