In 1958, Zhuangbian Commune was built. It was converted into a township in 1984 and established as a town in 1992. In 1997, it covered an area of ??170 square kilometers and had a population of 28,000. It governed Zhuangbian, Qianpu, Pinghu, Likeng, Xixi, Xuyang, Baijun, Panyang, Jiyun, Fengji, Xiushan, Xiyin, and Song. There are 22 village committees in Ling, Shangshuqiao, Chixi, Huanglong, Huangyang, Shanxi, Dafen, Zouqian, Qishan and Shangyuan. In 2002, Putian County was placed under the jurisdiction of Hanjiang District.
