At that time, the priests in Quzhou were in a panic and fled from east to west like lost dogs. English missionary Tang Mingxin, his wife and son fled to the yamen of Daodao in panic and asked for protection. Bao Zuling of Daotai refused to accept them for fear of implicating himself. Tang Mingxin's family was finally killed outside the door. According to the Catholic Heritage Society 190 1 Yearbook, three female priests, including the British stone missionary and the American horse missionary, were killed. In addition, four foreign missionaries were killed when they passed through Quzhou City from Changshan Road. Chen Tianfu, a priest in China, and some other members of the congregation fled to Hangzhou and Shanghai after getting wind of it, but they were not killed. It was not until the provincial army arrived that the chaos gradually subsided.

There is a Catholic church in Mapeng Village, Liang Shi, about 0/0 km northwest of Qucheng. Quzhou Toponym Records records: "Ma Peng Catholic Church, formerly known as Houyang, was built in Daoguang for ten years (1830). Originally a Chinese-style residence, it was converted into a western-style residence in the first year of the Republic of China (19 12). The church is magnificent and spacious, with the style of western architecture. During the Qianlong period, the Fu brothers set up a shed to plant ramie from Nanfeng, Jiangxi Province to rent land in Quzhou, hence the name "Ma Peng", also known as "Mao Peng". Ma Peng, a village in Liang Shi Town, speaks Jiangxi Gan dialect, while other surrounding villages speak Quzhou local Wu dialect. The two languages are not connected with each other, so it is difficult to talk.

In Guangxu 19 (1893), there was a drought in Xi 'an County (formerly Quxian County), and the church cut off the stream without authorization. This has aroused strong dissatisfaction among the villagers in Liang Shi Village and Jingyan Village downstream, and they are going to jointly go to Ma Peng Church to discuss their views.

At the same time, the sextant king of the church was sent into the city to report that officials were "unruly and anti-religious" and asked the government to send troops to suppress it.

It was a time of weakness and helplessness. The Qing Empire, which called itself "China", survived under the encroachment of foreign powers. You can imagine how scared the government in Quzhou was when the church was attacked.

A large number of officers and men rushed to Ma Peng to protect churches and parishioners, arrested the treasure of Jingyan Village on the spot, reprimanded two gentry with juren background, and then posted notices in Jingyan Village and Liang Shi Village to prohibit villagers from opposing churches.

Although the struggle of Liang Shi villagers failed, the seeds of resentment were deeply buried in everyone's heart. "Thousands of graves are dancing and thousands of families are singing." Not only in Liang Shi, but also under the double oppression of foreigners and the imperial court, the poor people in Quzhou never know what the hope of tomorrow is.

Until the 26th year of Guangxu in Qing Dynasty (1900), Liu Jiafu and others from Jiangshan revolted in Jiumu on the border of Fujian. Zhu Yaonan, a teacher in Quzhou, served as a military adviser. The rebel army is covered with red cloth, so it is called Jiumu Red Scarf Army. When the Red Scarf Army attacked Qucheng, the villagers in Liang Shi echoed with the people at home and abroad, and launched a struggle to punish officials and kill religions, which was known in history as the "Quzhou Religious Plan". Some missionaries in Britain, the United States, France and other countries relied on their own aggressive forces, wooed some Christians as minions, colluded with the government, and did many evils, which was deeply hated by the people and villagers in Qucheng. As a result, 1 1 The missionary in Mingqu City was killed, and the American missionary Huang Daoming and his son who escaped from Changshan fled to Xi 'an Tiananmen Pier in panic. They wanted to rent a boat to take refuge in Hangzhou, but the boat people refused because they were afraid of hurting themselves. As a result, it fell into the hands of Qucheng people, and a family of three was killed outside the nunnery. The Catholic church in the city, the Christian church and the Catholic church in Mapeng village were burned down one after another.
