When is the fishing festival?

Filipino fishermen worship Poseidon's traditional festival. Popular in Samar Island, Philippines. The fishing season begins in April every year. Fishermen hold a fishing festival ceremony before the full moon rises on the first Friday. Fishermen put the prepared wine and food on the bamboo raft first, and then push the bamboo raft into the sea. Bamboo rafts will drift far at low tide, but they will soon come back with the waves. At this time, the celebration began. Fishermen take food off the bamboo raft and enjoy it, which is regarded as a symbol of Poseidon's appreciation of their loyalty. A few days later, the fish season arrived. According to the custom, the first net fish should be distributed to everyone on the island, and the largest two of them should be slaughtered by the old people on the island and the fish blood should be dripped into the sea. It is said that more fish can be caught in this way.

There is also a fishing festival in the ancient Nigerian town of Yagong. It is held in February every year. The main activities include selection of Miss Argon Valley, exhibition, wrestling, boxing and motorcycle competition. Fishing competition is the climax of the festival. Every year, more than 3,000 fishing experts from all over the country and neighboring countries come to participate in the competition.
