What is the relevant visa application process in Portugal?
I. Description of Portuguese visa
No matter what passport Chinese mainland residents hold, they need to apply for a visa in advance to come to Portugal. Those who go to a third country via Portugal need to apply for a transit visa whether they leave the airport or not. Portugal now has three embassies and consulates in China, namely, the Portuguese Embassy in China, the Consulate General in Shanghai and the Consulate General in Macau. The consulate accepts visa applications in its consular district. Holders of Hong Kong SAR passports and Macao SAR passports can enter Portugal visa-free and stay for up to 90 days.
Portugal is a Schengen country. If China citizens only go to Portugal, they can apply for visas in Portugal and embassies and consulates in China. If you go to more than one Schengen country at the same time, you should apply to the member country with the longest stay. The first country to apply for under the condition of the same stay time. Apply for a visa from any country and use a visa application form from any country. According to the Schengen visa, visa holders should stay for no more than 90 days at a time, or for no more than 90 days every six months. In principle, visas cannot be extended. Long-term visas exceeding 90 days are issued by Schengen countries.
There are two main types of Portuguese visas: short-term visas and residence visas. Any Portuguese visa application must be submitted to the local Portuguese embassy or consulate first, and then submitted to the Portuguese Immigration Bureau and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for approval, so the application time is relatively long.

Four. Special tips for Portuguese visa entry and exit
(1) Cooperate with the inspection
The type of visa should be consistent with the purpose of going to Portugal. Portugal border inspection may ask you to show your travel documents. If it is a short-term business trip, you need to prepare an invitation letter and a return ticket. If you come to work in Portugal, you need to provide a Portuguese residence permit or approval document stamped and registered by the corresponding Portuguese institution and a health certificate for employment and residence.
When entering the country, please take the initiative to cooperate with the inspection of the Portuguese border defense department and truthfully explain the situation. Pay attention to keep calm and rational when communicating with foreign countries, and avoid excessive words and deeds. When the border inspection has doubts about your entry intention, stay time, entry times, etc. Even if you have obtained a visa, the border inspection has the right to refuse you entry without giving reasons.
(2) Sign carefully.
If you don't understand the local language, don't nod or sign documents when entering the special inspection. You can ask for an interpreter immediately, or you can ask your relatives and friends for an interpreter. If you are required to sign the document, you should ask the other party to provide the Chinese version, and read it correctly before making a decision. If they are refused entry, they should be required to provide humane treatment, food, rest and other basic rights, while waiting for them to arrange appropriate transportation to return. If necessary, please contact the Embassy of China in Portugal.
