Introduction to Yixiang Town

Yixiang Town is located in the eastern part of Simao District, across the river from Jiangcheng County to the east, Jinghong City to the south, Nanping Town, Simao District to the west, and Ning'er County to the north. The terrain of the town is wide in the west, narrow in the east, high in the northwest and low in the southeast. The territory has undulating mountains and crisscrossing ravines, making it a typical mountainous town. The town covers an area of ??1,051 square meters, accounting for 26.7% of the total area of ??Simao District. It is the largest town in the district. The town has jurisdiction over 16 village committees and 205 village groups. It is home to 25 ethnic groups including Han, Yi, Hani, Miao and Lisu.

Yixiang Town is located in the east. Before liberation, it was Yixiang Township. After liberation in 1949, it was changed to Yixiang District. In 1957, the district was withdrawn and changed to a township. In 1958, Simao County merged with Pu'er County. Puwen, Yixiang, Yongqing, and Nanping were merged into Dongfeng Commune of Pu'er County. After Simao County was restored in 1981, the original Nanping Commune was divided into Nanping and Dazhai communes. In 1983, Dazhai Commune was renamed Yixiang. The commune was transformed into Yixiang District in 1984 through institutional reform. In 1988, the district was removed and a township was established and it was changed to Yixiang Township. In 1998, the town was removed and established as Yixiang Town.

It borders Jiangcheng County to the east, Jinghong City to the south, Nanping Town of this district to the west, and Tongxin Township of Pu'er County to the north. It is a typical mountainous town. The highest altitude in the town is 1964 meters, the lowest altitude is 800 meters, and the average altitude is 1470 meters. The town covers an area of ??1050.53 square kilometers, accounting for 26.7% of the total area of ??the region. It is the largest town in the region. Sijiang Highway runs through the town for 50 kilometers from west to east. The town government is located near Xiangba, 10 kilometers away from Simao City. There are 25 ethnic groups in the town, including Han, Miao, Yi, Hani, Dai, Lisu and Lahu.
